There has been a shift towards online shopping for years, but due to recent events in the world, it has accelerated.
With various social policies in place that restrict the number of people allowed in a location, many people are choosing to shop online.
With this rapid decline in foot traffic, and therefore revenue, many businesses are closing their physical locations and this is forcing even more people to look for the products they need online.
There is a way to profit from this.
In fact, it is entirely possible to earn a living from it.
I will put this in as simple terms as possible.
How to profit from the online shopping boom
Online businesses rely on web traffic to their products.
A business can have the best products and on the greatest website, but it makes zero difference if no one ever visits their site.
Most will use methods such as search engine results, pay per click advertising, and social media, in order to attract traffic.
But a method that is quickly gaining favor is affiliate marketing.
Affiliate marketing is simply the practice of posting links to products in exchange for a commission.
To illustrate this in simple terms I will put it this way.
John joins an affiliate program for a shopping website that pays 10% on any sales he refers.
The program gives him access to links that contain his referral I.D.
John posts these links in various places such as blog posts on his website, in his social media posts, and in the description part of his YouTube videos.
If anyone clicks on these links, they are taken to the shopping website.
If they purchase anything on that site, John earns 10% of the total spent.
So, if someone follows John on social media and clicks on his links, they will be taken to the shopping site.
If they spend $100, then John will earn $10 (10%) from the sales generated.
The price for the customer is exactly the same as if it would be if they did not click Johns’s link.
The $10 is paid from the shopping sites’ profit margin.
Anyone that clicks on Johns’s links and makes a purchase will earn John money.
As you can imagine, this can make John a lot of money.
The more people he sends through the links then the more potential sales he has referred.
John does not have to interact with the customers or handle any aspect of the products.
No inventory, no shipping, no customer service.
John simply posts links and sends traffic to the shopping site.
Sound too good to be true?
Here are some examples of shopping sites that have affiliate programs and pay commissions to people who post links that generate sales.
As you can see, those are well-known names and places a lot of people shop online.
If you become an affiliate for one of these companies, you post your referral links and if someone clicks your link, goes to the site, and makes a purchase, you earn money.
As you can imagine, referring people to Amazon can be very lucrative.
They click your link and anything they purchase earns you money.
You do not have to handle any products or interact with the customer in any way.
The customer experience is the same as it always was.
They find something they want, they checkout and pay, Amazon delivers it, etc.
Your only role is that you posted the link that sent them to Amazon.
How to learn to do affiliate marketing properly
There are plenty of people earning a living from affiliate marketing.
Everyone from students, to stay-at-home mothers, through to retirees and of course entrepreneurs.
Some people earn a few extra bucks each month to help with bills etc.
Others make thousands per day.
It all depends on the skill set of the affiliate and of course the products they are promoting.
Fitness supplements such as protein powder will move more units but pay less per item.
Luxury watches will earn more per sale but move fewer units.
